Information about Hungarian domain registration

The registration of .hu domain names is not real-time, but you can start the registration through our site immediately.
.hu domain names are registered within 1-2 business days if the chosen name is accepted by NIC. The domain name can be used immediately afterwards, but the name is listed on a list for 8 days while anyone can submit a dispute against the domain name.

Third level domains

Besides registering a .hu top level domain, you can register following official third level domains too:

Local presence requirements

The owner of a Hungarian domain name must be a EU citizen or EU company. The Hungarian Registry also requires that the admin contact has an address in Hungary.

Domain transfers

Transfer of Hungarian domain names is possible, if you have an already registered domain name that you would like to transfer to us, you can initiate the transfer in real-time on our website. Transfers are manually checked and take 1-3 business days to complete.

Expired domains

Expired domains are listed on a 61 day waiting list before getting deleted. Domains get deleted at about 12:00 on the 61st day and the Registry is accepting new registration requests after that for the same domain.
Domain will be given to the first request that reaches the Registry.
We accept preregistrations for expired domains during the whole deletion period. There is no surcharge fee for registering expired Hungarian domains with us.

Technical requirements

The Hungarian Registry has strict requirements for the DNS of the domains. In order to register a .hu domain name you need to have the domain name set up in the DNS server. You must have at least two DNS servers, preferably on two different subnets (in case the IP addresses are not from two separate C classes, the path will be checked by traceroute and there must be at least one difference in the hops). The SOA email address must function correctly and in case you have mail servers set up in the DNS, the Registry will also check each MX to see if they can accept emails on postmaster@domainname.hu.
